To all: Don't be fooled into thinking the temperature "idiot light" is working correctly just because it light's up when you start your tractor. My JD 755 overheated to the point of shutting down twice (I still cry when I think about it!) and never did the light come on. Even now with it disconnected (I have a manual gauge now!) it still comes on when I start the tractor.

Terry - I had the same problem when I finally got around to using the 3 pt on my 755. I, too, have R4s. They seem quite a bit wider than R1s. Even when the hitch was tight there wasn't much clearence. The solution, at least for me was simple - swap the rear wheels. left to right, right to left. I picked up almost 6" of additional room between them. I measured.

Are you sure it's "frame" mounted? I have a 755 w/ #7 hoe. The hoe is mounted to a sub-frame and go's on/off quite easily. 2 pins up front, 2 in the back and disconnect two hoses. That's it. I can have it off in 5 min and on in 10 (got get the alignment right). I'm not sure of the price. New hoe's seem to start at $6k and go up... Still, you might find the hoe a little small. It won't reach a long way, lots of moving for trenching.

I've got R4s on my 755 (virtually the same size as a 4100) and mow my "lawn" (75% fescue, 25% ?) with a belly mower. So far I've not noticed any problems. No ripping or shoving. I've cut dry and wet. I have read lots of advice on this board though that mentions the possiblity of packing your sod. I haven't been using my tractor enough yet to determine if that's a problem. I also mow the rest of my 3 acres which is hilly and love the R4s.

This Micro Mower looks like it might just be the ticket for me. I've got a seriously bad back that will not tolerate a weed eater (too much twisting while bent). With 400 feet of driveway side hill, this thing might work. I'd still have to get it by the boss though. Still, I have a shop full of toys, er..tools, 'cause she be believes in the "right tool for the job", bless her heart. Of course, she's Civil Engineer too and appreciates good hardware.

Reply to TomG. Thanks for you reply to my question. My father-in-law had the dealer come and haul it in. He's been having some trouble with his 4x4 too, (the second time!) so it needed to go in.Webmaster: I have the same problem as Tom. I can't reply to posted messages. I've been able to in the past, this is something that just started. I haven't change any setting in my computer so? Any suggestions?

Help! My father-in-laws Ford 1715 (about 4 years old?) won't start. He was using it normally, shut down to move some stuff and when he got back on, it won't start. The lights work, the instrument panel lights, it just won't turn over. When he turns the key, he gets nothing, no clicking, no anything, except the gauges come on. Any help would be greatly appreciatated. Thanks.

If you can swing it, by all means, get the loader now. If you don't, when you finally do, you'll be kicking your self, HARD. They are really handy.

I have a #7 JD hoe on my 755 tractor and use a 9" bucket. I too use it
to dig out oak stumps and it seems to work very well(with patience!). I have considered getting a SMALLER bucket to trench with, but have never followed up. One big plus I've found with my small bucket is in using it close to my house around pipes, etc.,you can be almost surgical in your digging. For my use, smaller is more useful than larger (backhoes only!). Also, I don't know if my machine would move a larger bucket through the hard, rocky ground my property

Once during mowing, my JD 755 overheated and quit running. After my heart attack and cool down I noticed the outside grill was clogged with chaft (?) from mowing the bone dry grass. Yes, I do clean it regulary and keep the radiator cleaned but.... Anyway, someone today told me a "johnson switch" most likely shut down my engine before it seized and was a typical feature for JD products. I plan on getting a real temp gauge (any suggestions?) to augment the idiot light, but I'm curious about the "johnson switch". Does such a thing exist? Is it standard on a JD 755? Thanks for any info.

I know I've seen a discussion about compressors, but I don't recall if any mention was made of a major benefit. An air powered grease gun! I just got my compressor fired up (60 gal, 6.5 hp (yeah right!)) and hooked up the grease gun I bought at Harbor Freight. FANTASTIC. It cuts my lube time by 4. No more trying to hold the gun between my knees so I can hold the nozzle on the zerk fitting while I pump the handle. I have a JD 755 w/ #7 back hoe so there are lots of fittings. For those of you with compressors I can't recommend this enough. The gun was only $16 dollars and looks identical to one I saw in the Grainger catalog for $56. Build quality is great and it uses the 14 once cartridges or bulk fill. If you don't have a compressor, this is great reason to get one. It runs anywere for 30 to 130 psi and really doesn't use any volume so I'd think even a very small one would work. No more reason to skimp on the all important grease PLUS I stayed much cleaner. Sorry this was so long, but I just had to share.

Thanks for your response. I guess I'm okay then. I don't lack power, I just see alot of full size backhoes that never seem to drop a bucket and mine hits the ground overnight. Ah, well. If I put it on the ground start I never notice it.

Here in California we have Poison Oak. I've got to say, Just use the Round Up. Pick a day when the winds not blowing, keep the pressure down and be selective and you should be able nuke most of the noxious weed without destroying too much else. This way you'll get the roots, something you're not sure to do by pulling. If you wind up with a rash, use cool water and Boraxo powder to control the itchings. Cleans the oil, and mildly scatchs. The only word of advice I'd like to offer is: IF you decide to go with chain tie downs, be sure you get the new "compound" tighteners. Don't get a deal on the old style, which, while easy to close (tighten) came slamming open and are a signifcant safety hazard if you're not paying attention. You don't want to catch a tightner in the face to save couple of bucks.

Terry - One thing that you mentioned is, in my opinion, significant, and thats the peddle arrangement of the HST. I have a JD 755 w/ the side by side peddelss and have test driven a Kubota with the treddle (sp). Believe me, if your doing a lot of back and forth loader work, it's much less tiring to swing your foot a couple of inchs back and forth than it is to lift your foot, move it back... You get my point. Just my opinion. Keep in mind I only have 20 hours on my tractor and have no other experienc.

I've got a JD 755 w/ #7 hoe, and I can tell you, "nibble" is the right word to discribe stump removal. I've got quite a few oak stumps, mostly 5" to 10" and they don't come out easy. They do come out though, given 20~40 minutes depending on size. It is, however, a good way to practice your backhoe operating technique. As far as digging, I can't even tell when I'm digging in cobbles, but I'd have to say if I was going to do a BIG project, I'd rent a hoe, and save the little one for the little jobs. I bought mine because it's really convenient, and I do a lot of work I wouldn't do if I had to go rent one for $200 a day.
